Metallic Symphonies "In Thought" Review This Australian band cranks out a solid powerful style of melodic metal that I think merits a close listen. The band has good crunch, but refinement is the order of the day. Clean vocals and strong melody dominate the sound. There are a lot of bands that are on the fringe of the progressive metal genre that show a lot of the tendencies of progressive metal without ever really being progressive. Vanishing Point is that kind of a band. They have a strong sound, but their music is very straight forward. Fortunately, the band does have those Australian power metal leanings to give the sound some distinction. There is a hint of Hyperion to the music. Solid melodic metal... Midnight Metal.com "In Thought" Review It wasn't actually until I was quite familiar with Vanishing Point's second effort that I got around to listening to their debut album, "In Thought". I was able to get a more in depth understanding of where Vanishing Point are coming from as a whole now and I am quite pleased about that. Vanishing Point are what I'd call Progressive Melodic Metal with a lot of Power Metal influences. The influences are there, just very sublte. Without a doubt the music on "In Thought" is lead by the incredible singing talents of Silvio Massaro, however as the album progresses further on this switches over to the guitars (handled by Tom Vucur and Andrew Whitehead), and then on again to the keyboards (Pep Sammartino). I usually refrain from using such words as "catchy" and "attractive" when referring to Metal but in Vanishing Point's case I will make an exception, because I feel there is no other way to describe the beauty of this music. If there's one thing I've learnt from listening to Vanishing Point, it's that their songs will stick in your head for a long time. It's down to the fact these Australian's know how to write incredible music, packed with melody and harmony. The first few notes on "The Only One" are simply captivating, as is the entire song that follows. The entire album for that matter is a breath-taking journey guaranteed to leave you singing every word for days on end. 8 / 10
